(Swedish) Vem Kan Segla Förutan Vind? (Who Can Sail without a Wind?)

(From the island of Åland, with a tune related to “If I Forget Thee, O Jerusalem.”)

Printed songbook, p. 72.

Recording by Ross Sutter:

Swedish:
Vem kan segla förutan vind?
Vem kan ro utan åror?
Vem kan skiljas från vännen sin
Utan att fälla tårar?

Jag kan segla förutan vind,
Jag kan ro utan åror.
Men ej skiljas från vännen min
Utan att fälla tårar.

English:
Who can sail without a wind?
Who can row without oars?
Who can leave a parting friend
Without shedding tears?

I can sail without the wind,
I can row without oars,
But I can’t leave a parting friend
Without shedding tears.

I learned this song from a Swedish exchange counselor at a Scout Camp in the mid-1960’s. She taught it to us in Swedish and English. It came into my mind today; I still remembered much of the Swedish (a language I don’t know) and it was amazing to see it and hear it again. Thank you for posting it.
